In 2015, United Way set out on a bold new course to narrow its focus to the most critical needs of its three-county community.

Dering helped lead the strategic planning effort at the Board level, design and facilitate a dozen special-focus task forces, conduct a 13,000-recipient survey and hold community conversations with several hundred stakeholders.

As the plan went into effect, we led approximately 20 additional community conversations in the “building block” areas of Income, Education and Health Care.

Our emphasis was on leading energetic, interactive sessions to encourage candid input and broad community support––key components of United Way’s leadership toward a collective impact model for the Capital Region.
