Hannaford Supermarkets – Inclusion Program

Training & Course Development

The Challenge

Hannaford Supermarkets sought a partner to develop training materials for its new inclusion program. Through multiple conversations, we defined that the program would be targeted at Hannaford Associates in the corporate office. Additionally, Hannaford’s DEI council identified 4 main categories to include in the program:

  • Inclusive Leadership Foundations
  • Unconscious Bias
  • Connecting Across Difference
  • Psychological Safety

The Approach

Dering presented the idea of a blended (e-learning, followed by a short live session) solution to meet the needs of Hannaford’s DEI Council. The solution also was initially designed so that the Council members could facilitate the live sessions.

Hannaford Supermarkets - Inclusion Program

As a result of preliminary analysis and consultation with Hannaford, development of Hannaford Supermarkets – Inclusion Program began in April 2022. Dering designed several options of branded training material templates for Hannaford to select from. Once selected and approved, Dering utilized the templates to develop the training materials for each category. The Hannaford Program Sponsor acted as the Subject Matter Expert and provided all content for the e-learning, and participant and facilitator support materials. Throughout the development process, bi-weekly meetings were held between the Hannaford Program Sponsor and Dering Instructional Developer to discuss needs and project status.

The Solution

  • Standard, and uniformly branded, training materials design templates for presentation decks (PPT), e-learning content (Articulate 360), and participant workbooks.
  • A 10-minute e-learning module for each identified topic area.
  • Participant and facilitator support materials for a 2-hour, instructor-led session for each category.

The Results

Hannaford implemented its Hannaford Supermarkets – Inclusion Program in 2024 through their learning management system and faciltated by members of their DEI Coucil. The blended program included facilitation notes and participant materials which were provided at the completion of each module of the program.
